Ashamed to be an American
I am, once again, ashamed to be an American.
We had a clear choice between a pair of decent, intelligent, democracy-loving, competent leaders (Harris and Walz) and a pair of racist, sexist, fascists who are incompetent (Trump and Vance), and yet we Americans made the wrong choice.
There are two main possible reasons for this unbelievable and shameful outcome. First, most Americans are either racists, sexists, and/or fascists, or else most Americans are incredibly stupid and ignorant. Most likely, both of these reasons work together to yield the result that we are witnessing today.
There are some Americans who are intelligent and well-informed, but who are racists, sexists, and/or fascists. There are some Americans who are stupid and ignorant, but who are not racists, sexists, and/or fascists. And, of course, there are some Americans who are stupid, ignorant, and also racists, sexists, and/or fascists. These three or four different kinds of Americans now constitute the majority in most states. That is why Trump and Vance were elected.
Although I am ashamed to be an American today, I am proud to be a citizen of a West Coast state (Washington), where the majority of voters are NOT racists, sexists, and/or fascists, or stupid and ignorant. It is no surprise that California, Oregon, and Washington voted for the pair of decent, intelligent, democracy-loving, competent leaders (Harris and Walz), and rejected the racism, sexism, fascism, and incompetence of Trump and Vance. It is no surprise that the Northern East Coast states (e.g. New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Virginia) rejected the sexism, racism, fascism, and incompetence of Trump and Vance.
It is also no surprise that the Bible Belt was solidly in support of the sexist, racist, fascist and incompetent Trump and Vance. Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and other Bible Belt states have a long history of being dominated by sexists, racists, fascists, and by ignorant and incompetent leaders. It was sad, however, to see Georgia return back to the slime from which it seemed to be emerging.
It was a surprise however, that the majority of voters in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio (and perhaps Michigan as well) supported the pair of sexist, racist, fascist, incompetent candidates. Americans in these states tipped the balance in favor of prejudice, ignorance, and evil.
My country is no longer a force for good and for democracy in the world, but is a danger to the human race, and for that reason I am deeply ashamed.
