Former President Donald Trump is littering his public remarks with fictional stories.
This isn’t run-of-the-mill political spin, the kind of statistic-twisting and accomplishment-exaggerating that political candidates of all stripes engage in. Rather, the Republican presidential nominee is telling colorful lies that are completely untethered to reality.

Opinions of Roe v. Wade
Facing heavy criticism from Harris and others for appointing three of the Supreme Court justices who overturned the Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision in 2022, Trump concocted a tale that this unpopular decision fulfilled the wishes of “everybody” – including “every Democrat.”
“Every Democrat, every Republican, everybody wanted Roe v. Wade terminated and brought back to the states,” Trump said on Fox News in late August.
This is not even remotely accurate.
Roe was consistently supported by a majority of the American public, and it was overwhelmingly popular among Democrats – with 80% support or better among Democrats in many polls.

Donald Trump is spouting a BIG FAT LIE about what Americans thought about Roe v. Wade:
- It is NOT the case that 100% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
- It is NOT the case that 90% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
- It is NOT the case that 80% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
- It is NOT the case that 70% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
- It is NOT the case that 60% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
- It is NOT the case that 50% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
- It is NOT the case that 40% of Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned.
Less than 40% of Americans have wanted Roe v. Wade to be completely overturned:
In CNN polling going back to 1989, adults’ support for completely overturning Roe had never exceeded 36%.
Not only is Trump’s claim FALSE, the truth is nearly the opposite of what he stated. Most Americans wanted Roe v. Wade to be maintained. In 2022, about 7 out of 10 Americans were opposed to completely overturning Roe v. Wade:

Trump told an even BIGGER LIE when he said that “every Democrat” wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated or overturned. Only a small percentage of Democrats wanted Roe v. Wade to be terminated:

A NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll in May 2022, after a draft of the court’s opinion overturning Roe was leaked, found that… 93% of Democrats opposed overturning Roe.
Trump claimed that “every Democrat” wanted Roe v. Wade terminated, but in May of 2022, only 5% of Democrats wanted Roe v. Wade to be overturned.

Trump might well be an IDIOT, but he is not so stupid or so ignorant as to actually BELIEVE that “every Democrat” wanted Roe v. Wade to be overturned. He knows that is NOT the case.
But Trump tells this BIG FAT LIE anyway. He does not care whether what he says is true or false, because Trump is a pathological liar and a SOCIOPATH. He is lying in order to DECEIVE millions of gullible Americans, so that they will vote for him. But if they vote for him, they will be putting a SOCIOPATH into the White House, and making a SOCIOPATH the leader of the United States of America.
